Australian Food History Australian food history began with the Aboriginals. They were living very different back then because they had to make their own food from scratch, build a shelter to live and make their own clothes to protect themselves. The types of food the Aborigine's ate were wild animals such as kangaroos, goanna's, turtles, grubs, fish to name a few. The men use to hunt for these animals by using weapons such as spears, boomerangs and spear throwers. Aboriginal's used their hands to prepare food and cooked raw meats on coals over an open fire. They also boiled fresh vegetables, nuts and seeds to eat along with the meat. Their eating condition was not very pleasing because the water was dirty and they had to find clear running streams in which they could wash their food. Another very important part of their bush tucker was to make breads by crushing seeds and nuts into a powder like flour.

Aboriginal Living
Kangaroo meat is very important to Aboriginals because it is very high in protein. its a good meat option because it has very low fat levels. Aboriginals learnt at a very young age, how to hunt for kangaroos and since this animal was a native of Australia it was a very easy target for Aboriginals to hunt for.
The Aborigine's made an instrument called didgeridoos, they made them with living trees with hollowed by the ants eating the inside of it. They made this instrument for entertainment and for ceremony's. This aloud them to take a break from their hard working day, and then enjoyed music making and good compony.
The seeds and nuts they ate came from native plants that grew in the wild. The woman were the ones who collected them and crushed them ready to prepare food. Everyday they ate nuts and seeds which was very healthy for them.
One of the best known foods are the witchery grubs and they are found in witchery bushes. The Aboriginals found these grubs to be very tasty like scrambled eggs. They did not care what they taste like because they needed it to survive and are an Aboriginal delicacy.
Indigenous Aboriginal Culture and Cuisine
Aboriginals were the first citizens to discover their culture. Australia culture started with the Aboriginal's and they represented the oldest surviving group in the world, about 60,000 years ago. The Indigenous Aboriginals has always had a mix of cultures and people although not in the same way as it does today. Before 1788 the Indigenous people were very populated in Australia because they were inhabited the whole of Australia. There were many different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities made up of people who spoke different languages with various cultural beliefs, practices and traditions. Before 1788 there were 700 languages been spoken in one area throughout Australia with an estimated population of 750 000 people. In many ways Indigenous Australia was different in the past from what it is today. Everyday the Aboriginal's had to walk on feet with no shoes to protect themselves. This was very different back than because the clothing wasn't very basic. Indigenous people divided the land up into traditional lands using geographic boundaries such as rivers, lakes and mountains. They were living on land that was owned by them but sooner or later the white people took their land. Back then the Aboriginals were very different to us because they had more experience with wild animals and can survive on their own.
